Privacy policy

Draft. This policy has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
By using RisingScore, you agree to this policy and our terms of use.
RisingScore is an app that lets diving teams stream their meets privately to approved team members, and keep score. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. "We" and "us" means Jonathan Seth Dotterer, the operator of RisingScore.
The short version: streams and team information are visible only to people a team's coach or admin has approved. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and you can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Who RisingScore is for
You must be at least 13 years old to create a RisingScore account. We do not knowingly let children under 13 create accounts. Divers under 13 may still appear in video a team streams; see "Children and video of minors" below.
What we collect
| Information | Where it comes from | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | You, when you sign in | To send your sign-in code and important account messages |
| First and last name | You | So your team knows who you are |
| Team membership, role (for example coach, diver or family member) and division | You and your team's coaches or admins | To decide what you can see and do in your team |
| Team name, logo, schedule and meet details | Your team's coaches or admins | To run the team's space and show the logo on streams |
| Live video and audio, and the recordings of it | Whoever streams for the team, from a phone or camera | To show the meet live and as a replay to approved team members, and for coaching analysis and training our products (see below) |
| Dive sheets, dives and scores | Team members who keep score | To show results and history to the team, and for coaching analysis and training our products (see below) |
| Feedback you send | You | To improve RisingScore |
| Technical information such as IP address, device type and app version | Your device, through our service providers | To deliver video, keep the service secure and fix problems |
When you watch a stream, the app tells others on the stream how many people are watching. It counts accounts, not names, and the count isn't stored after the stream.
If you join the waitlist on our website, we collect the email address and the optional details you enter (first name, team and role) to tell you when RisingScore is ready for your team.
Who can see your information
- Your team. Approved members of a team can see the team's members, schedule, scores, and live and recorded streams. Coaches and admins can also see pending join requests. People who haven't been approved can't see any of it.
- Team logos are stored at a public web address so they can be shown on streams. Don't upload a logo you wouldn't want public.
- Service providers who run parts of RisingScore for us, only to provide the service:
- Supabase (accounts and database)
- Cloudflare (live video, recordings and video delivery)
- Vercel (our server)
- Resend (sign-in emails)
- Expo (app delivery and updates)
- The law. We may share information if required by law, or to protect someone's safety.
We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to show ads.
Coaching analysis and training our products
When you use RisingScore, you consent, as described in our terms of use, to these uses of recordings and scores:
- Coaching assistance: analyzing recordings, including a diver's body position and movement, to give the diver, their family and their coaches feedback within their team.
- Training our products: researching, building and training our products, including machine-learning and artificial intelligence models such as diving form analysis. We remove names, accounts and other directly identifying details wherever we reasonably can, and combine data from many teams.
- Analytics: de-identified and aggregated information about how RisingScore is used.
We don't use this analysis to identify who someone is, we don't sell it, and we don't try to re-identify anyone from de-identified data. We will not publish or release video of an identifiable person outside their team, publicly or to third parties, without consent from that person or, for a minor, a parent or guardian. You can ask us at support@RisingScore.app to stop using your or your child's recordings for new training. Because de-identified information is no longer tied to you, and trained models can't "unlearn" it, it may be kept after your account is deleted.
Filming at meets
Meets and practices take place in public or shared places, where athletes, coaches, officials and spectators may be filmed by other people. Our terms of use explain what anyone streaming must and must not film.
How video is protected
- Streams are never public. Video plays only for signed-in, approved team members, through links that expire after a few hours.
- Recordings are stored exactly as the camera sent them. The team logo and other on-screen graphics are added by the app while you watch and are never burned into the recording.
- A team's camera addresses and keys are shown only to its coaches and admins, who can replace a key at any time.
Children and video of minors
Diving meets often include divers under 18, and sometimes under 13. Teams are responsible for following their club's, school's and meet's rules about filming. A parent or guardian who wants their child's video removed can ask the team's coach or contact us at support@RisingScore.app, and we will help remove it.
If we learn that a child under 13 created an account, we will delete it. If you believe that has happened, contact us at support@RisingScore.app.
How long we keep information
- Account information is kept while your account is open.
- Recordings and scores are kept while the team exists, or for 3 years, whichever is shorter, unless the team deletes them sooner.
- While RisingScore is free, we may delete recordings, scores or accounts on free plans sooner, for example to manage storage. We will try to give notice before doing so.
- When an account or team is deleted, we delete its information within 30 days, except where we must keep something by law. Backups are cleared on their normal schedule.
Your choices and rights
- Leave a team at any time from the app's menu.
- See or export your information. Email support@RisingScore.app and we will send you a copy.
- Delete your account. Email support@RisingScore.app.
- Correct your information. Edit your name in your profile, or ask your team's coach to fix team details.
Depending on where you live, you may have other privacy rights. Contact us and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access rules so each team's data is visible only to that team, and expiring links for video. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us right away at support@RisingScore.app if you think something is wrong.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
